A Rainbow Pregnancy // Sioux Falls Maternity Photographer

Morgan and Jake are a past wedding couple of mine, and since then we have gotten to know each other pretty well.  You see, we have in common something nobody ever wants to experience.  The loss of a baby.  Their first baby, a beautiful little girl named Emmalyn Grace, was born prematurely on July 30, 2014, just a few months before we lost our first baby, Edith.  I remember hearing about their loss when I was pregnant with Edith, and I didn’t want to even imagine how it would feel… the absolute pain and longing.  Then the unimaginable happened to me and my husband, and our families were connected in a very unique way.  Morgan and I have been able to talk to each other through our difficult times, and we have been able to lift each other up in times of sadness and grief.

A pregnancy after a loss is referred to in the baby loss community as a “rainbow pregnancy”, and the baby is referred to as a “rainbow baby”.  It basically means that after a devastating storm, there is always a rainbow.  I’m ecstatic to say that their second baby girl and rainbow, Charlotte Joy, was born on July 19th this year (just a few days ago!) and she is perfect in every way.  Here are some maternity pictures from their session before Charlie was born. The bear in a couple of the photos represents Emma.

I’m looking forward to meeting her at her newborn session soon!
