Amber and Casey met through mutual friends when they both went to South Dakota State University. After some flirting and texting for quite awhile, they made it official and couldn’t get enough of each other. One early morning around 3:30a.m., after Amber a very long day working as a nurse in the emergency room, she came home to find what looked like a million mini candles, lit up and spelling out “Will You Marry Me?”. They led to a table with a bouquet of roses and a personal poem. What makes this story quite humorous is that meanwhile, Amber had not been able to go to the bathroom all day at work because it was so busy, and she tried to contain her excitement about what she had just walked into while she went to open the bathroom door. It wouldn’t open! Casey had put the kitty in there to keep her out of the candles, and the kitty had somehow jammed the door shut with the vanity drawer. Casey spent over an hour trying to free the door so Amber could get in there, as it was their one and only bathroom. While all this was happening, Casey proposed and of course, Amber said “Yes!”. Their kitty was in the “dog house” for awhile after that. All of this leads us up to their wedding day, which I was so honored to document for them.
When we arrived to the church where Amber and Casey were about to get married, I felt really inspired. It was a beautiful setting, with a lot of natural light and space. Amber and Casey arrived with their crew, making sure they didn’t run into each other on the way in. I was immediately memorized by how beautiful Amber looked and couldn’t wait to see her in her wedding dress. Calli (my second photographer for the day) and I took photos of the guys and the girls as they prepped. Once Amber was in her dress I can’t say enough about how stunning she looked. She was very calm and collected, and excited to finally see Casey. She finished putting her jewelry on, then I found Casey and we got ready for the much anticipated first look in the sanctuary.

The entire day had a very elegant and cheerful vibe, with vintage accents and beautiful floral arrangements with pops of pink and yellow that reminded me of spring time. The ceremony was a very meaningful and heartfelt one.

As the newlyweds stood in the receiving line and thanked their loved ones for coming, the sky outside began to look awesome. The clouds came in and the colors were vibrant and fierce. A storm was coming and I couldn’t have been more excited about how pretty it looked. Amber and Casey made their exit from the church just in time before it started to rain. We decided to use the matching umbrellas they had brought for photos (way to think ahead!) and get some outdoor photos regardless. Yay for adventurous and carefree brides! SO worth it.

The couple above might look familiar. It’s the maid of honor and Amber’s sister Rachel with her husband Nick, whose wedding I also photographed a few years ago. Rachel holds a special place in my heart, because she was also my nurse when I gave birth to my son, Weston, and she was amazing!
We made a stop at a nearby bar and grill, Krav’n. There was a nifty overhang that was perfect for some rainy day photos of celebration.

The reception was full of people ready to have a good time with the new husband and wife. Energy Event Group did an amazing job, as usual and kept everyone entertained throughout the entire night. The dancing never stopped, and Calli and I left with smiles on our faces. What a fabulous day!
