Thursday 3 :: Local Favorites

Today I was thinking of giving a shout-out to some local businesses as I went through the local drive-thru for my coffee fix.  Ever since I moved back to Sioux Falls, I have appreciated everything so much more than when I was here growing up.  I am proud to call Sioux Falls my home, and in my opinion, the city has become a place full of unique businesses, attractions, and most of all friendly people all around.  Not to get too cheesy – but I just want to announce that I am happy that I moved back from the Twin Cities, though not comparable to Sioux Falls at all.  For some, the Cities is the place for them to call home.  But for me, living there for 3 years was just the right amount of time for me to learn that I need to be in a place with just the right amount of traffic so it always takes under 30 minutes to get anywhere, yet too big to be a “small town”.  Here are some of my favorites that are located in good ol’ “Su Fu”.

Coffea Roasterie

I learned of this new coffee shop when I moved back – actually went inside and was surprised at how remarkably large and cozy it was – not to mention it is connected to a wine shop!  Coffea instantly became my favorite Sioux Falls coffee shop, which was a relief after having quite a few in the Cities to choose from.  I am in fact drinking one of their fat-free caramel latte with an extra espresso shot as I “speak”.  I love that there is a drive-thru, yet it is still a charming element on the inside.  Definitely somewhere to take your out-of-town visitors 🙂  Oh yea, did i mention that so far everything I have tried from their menu is to die for?  I have a ways to go yet, I don’t pay for coffee every day, more like at the most once a week, but that way I know I can always have something new to try here if I wanted to!  If you want to learn more about Coffea’s ways, visit their blog.

Zandbroz Variety

This has been a favorite of mine for years.  Right in the heart of DT|SF (Downtown Sioux Falls), Zandbroz is packed with goodies to browse through for gifts and entertainment.  I admit, I have entered with my camera and a couple of clients every now and then, but who can resist all of the colors and unique things inside?  I love the selection of books and kitchenware, and the discount area just up the stairs.  The only downside is the nonexistent ice-cream bar that used to be along the back wall.  I understand why they might have had to get rid of it, but people used to get the most delicious shakes and other treats at their old-fashioned ice-cream bar.  Aside from that disappointment, this is yet another shop I highly recommend you bring your out-of-towners to.

ETC. For Her – Magazine

What’s not to love about this local gem?  The fact that it covers all of your local shopping needs if your aim is to find something unique and beautiful?  Or maybe the fact that the stories are always so fantastic to read?  Ok, maybe I am a little bias, because I have written for etc. for her magazine for about 4.5 years now… I met with the editor-in-chief and owner, Angela, when I was a Journalism major in college, and I couldn’t resist the offer to write about such fun topics.  Currently, I write for the travel and the children column every month.  It’s hard not to get excited about seeing the new issues in front of so many places around the city of Sioux Falls… I admit to handing it to people sometimes and ordering them to read it, too.  But with sections such as    “The A List”, featuring fabulous finds throughout Sioux Falls, “Mind-Body-Spirit”, with stories on where to travel next and your health and well-being,  and  “Out & About”, with a calendar of events and a concierge column, who can resist the good reads? It is such a convenient way to find out what is hot in Sioux Falls as far as things to do and places to go.
